South Molton Street Public Realm

DSDHA were appointed by WCC to develop public realm proposals for South Molton Street.

A primary ambition was to change the pace of movement through South Molton Street and to define zones for movement, activity, gathering, and pause. The proposed strategy uses the distinctive secondary gateways / routes into South Molton Street as key drivers in defining a new pattern of movement through the street. It is these passageways that people remember as a distinctive characteristic of South Molton Street and Mayfair as a whole.

A clear vehicular route is maintained as a shared surface, with the edge pedestrian paved areas swelling to provide secondary gathering areas and opportunity for outdoor amenity space, as well as enhancing arrival from the secondary gateways / passageways.
