DSDHA were appointed by the Link Day Schools in November 2010 to undertake a feasibility study for the future development of their Primary School and Secondary School sites on Croydon Road.
The Link Schools are both coeducational, non-maintained special schools that provide education for children aged between 4 – 19 with speech, language and communication needs.
Having developed incrementally since they were established in two 1930s residential properties, the current building stock is no longer meeting the needs or aspirations of these high-performing schools.
Following the completion of the Feasibility Study in June 2011, designs were developed for an extension to the Primary School. This is to be the first phase of a long-term strategy for the two schools and was granted planning permission by the London Borough of Sutton in February 2013. The project is due to start on site in June 2014.
The proposal seeks to respond to the specific site location and surrounding context, whilst creating a building which is distinctly contemporary and reflects its primary use. The new building will consolidate all of the School’s facilities onto a single site, with a new entrance canopy creating a welcoming, dignified gateway to both the existing and new buildings.
