Hoyle Early Years Centre

This winning entry in a national competition organised by CABE / DfES chaired by Nicholas Serota to promote innovative design in environments for education, employs a sustainable strategy of remodelling and extending buildings for an existing Nursery in need of more space.
The design, developed closely with the client, employs the principle of “Building Upon Qualities” to compliment the existing environment and address specific local conditions. Catering for local children within a deprived area, and those with special needs including autism, the new nursery is expanded and increased natural light and ventilation. At an urban level, the building presents a new street elevation to reinforce its key position within the local community.
